Dear Neighbor,

My name is Mandy Smith Weirich, and I’m running for State Senate because West Virginians deserve leadership that is transparent, committed to freedom, and focused on putting people first. As a police officer, social worker, and mother, I’ve spent my life serving our community, and now I’m asking for your support in this election. Our state needs leaders who will fight for working families, be clear about where they stand, and tackle the real issues facing us—not just skim the surface.

Why I’m Running

West Virginians deserve a leader who will fight for them—not corporate donors or the political establishment. As a police officer, I’ve seen our communities struggle firsthand. As a social worker, I’ve helped families navigate broken systems, from healthcare to education. As a mother, I’m committed to building a future where our children thrive.

I’m running to create a West Virginia that works for everyone. That means standing up for working families, fully funding public education, expanding healthcare access, supporting workers’ rights, and investing in the infrastructure that will help our communities grow. My focus is on creating an economy that benefits all of us—not just the wealthiest few or big corporate interests.

Contrast with Robbie Morris

Robbie Morris has done some good work for our communities, and I respect his efforts. However, his campaign has remained largely on the surface, avoiding key issues that matter deeply to West Virginians. Despite being in the race for over 500 days, Robbie has not taken clear positions on critical matters on lowering costs, public school funding, collective bargaining, LGBTQ+ issues ,and expanding healthcare access. Voters deserve to know where their leaders stand on these essential issues, and so far, Robbie hasn’t provided that clarity.

It’s also important to note that Robbie Morris used to be a Democrat but was recruited by the Republican establishment to run for this seat. This switch raises questions about whose interests he truly represents—those of the people or the powerful political forces that backed his campaign? While his campaign has earned some union endorsements, it is also heavily funded by corporate donors, particularly from the oil and coal industries. We must ask ourselves: can someone who’s aligned with big corporations and political insiders truly stand up for the working families of West Virginia?

In addition, we’ve repeatedly asked Robbie to take a stance on Project 2025, an issue with major implications for our state, and to clarify whether he accepts the 2020 election results. To date, he has not responded. This refusal to engage with voters on critical issues is concerning. West Virginians deserve a leader who will face tough questions head-on and provide honest, clear answers—not someone who avoids accountability.

Key Issues

  • Reproductive Freedom: I believe women should have the right to make their own healthcare decisions. The restrictive abortion laws in our state have driven essential medical professionals out of West Virginia, reducing access to care for families.

  • Public Education: I am fully committed to funding our public schools and ensuring teachers receive competitive pay. Our students deserve the best opportunities, and our schools need permanent behavioral health support to help students and educators succeed.

  • A People-First Economy: While Robbie’s campaign is backed by corporate donors, I am focused on creating a people-first economy that prioritizes fair wages, union rights, and worker protections. This also means investing in infrastructure—roads, bridges, and broadband—to ensure our state is prepared for future growth.

  • Ballot Referendum Rights: I support giving West Virginians the power to vote directly on critical issues through ballot referendums. It’s time we let the people decide on the issues that affect their daily lives.

Why You Should Vote for Me

This election is about more than just promises; it’s about who will truly represent you and fight for your interests. Robbie Morris may have done some good for our communities, but his refusal to address key issues—like lowering costs,  public school funding, and healthcare—raises concerns. He was also recruited by the Republican establishment, aligning himself with political insiders and corporate interests.

West Virginians need a leader who will be transparent, take strong positions, and work for the people, not just for corporations or political insiders. I have always been upfront about where I stand, and I will continue to fight for working families, public education, and the rights of all West Virginians. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer state that works for everyone.

Thank you for your time and support. I look forward to working with you to create a better future for West Virginia.

Sincerely,
Mandy Smith Weirich
